SCHMUHL – Company HISTORY: OVER 50 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN FIBER COMPOSITE TECHNOLOGY

The family-owned company SCHMUHL, which today operates as Schmuhl Faserverbundtechnik GmbH & Co KG, manufactures fiber-reinforced plastic components, as well as complete systems, and has written an impressive success story since it was founded in the year 1986.

Today Schmuhl is a celebrated supply and development partner for a wide range of industries in the high-tech sector.

Historie Schmuhl Rennbobschlitten company history

1972

Company founder Klaus-Peter Schmuhl became project manager for racing sleds and bobsleigh sports equipment at the Scientific Center of the German Sled and Bobsleigh Sports Association of the GDR (DSBV of the GDR). The Research and Development Center for Sports Equipment Berlin (FES) is located in Oberhof / Thuringia.
Here he was able to gain his first experience in lightweight construction and with fiber composite materials (glass and carbon fiber reinforced plastics). One example of his successful work was during the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck. With the sports equipment he helped to develop, and of course the great athletes, Olympic gold was won twice in the bobsleigh competitions.

Schmuhl Plast-Verarbeitung was founded by Peter Schmuhl in Lothra, Thuringia. His first products were competition water skis and water ski towing boats.

1990

Due to German reunification, there were no more orders in the “new federal states” and so the company needed to adapt. Peter Schmuhl found a helpful partner in the Stuttgart area, in the form of the company “Rolf Wolfangel”. This partnership resulted in a smooth relaunch. Schmuhl was able to draw on Wolfangel's wealth of experience, thus winning new orders.

The company "Schmuhl und Partner GmbH & Co. KG" was founded, with Peter Schmuhl as managing partner, and the company "Wolfangel" as co-partner. The company expanded and moved into our new location in Liebschütz, Thuringia.

Historie - IGA Stuttgart_Imtamin Monorail Kabinen company history

Peter Schmuhl's son, Markus Schmuhl, joins the company as production manager.
New products: Production of complete cabins, including cabling, for the IGA-Stuttgart on behalf of the company "Intamin".

Historie - Siemens MRT Magnetom "Avanto" company history

New products in the medical technology field: complete MRI housings, Plug and Play systems for "Magnetom Avanto" and "Somatom plus”, as well as MRI beds for Siemens as "Just-in-Sequence" delivery.

Production of aviation components (Wega100)

Expansion of the office and production wings (Hall 4).
